What is Kupola?

Kupola is a daily companion app designed for Orthodox Christians. It provides a complete liturgical calendar with daily saints, feasts, and commemorations, scripture readings, fasting rules, and an Orthodox parish finder.

How do I get started?

What is the difference between the Julian and Revised Julian calendars?

The Julian calendar is the traditional liturgical calendar used by many Orthodox Churches (Russian, Serbian, Georgian, etc.). The Revised Julian (or New Julian) calendar is a correction of the Julian calendar adopted by some Churches (Greek, Romanian, Bulgarian, etc.) and coincides with the civil Gregorian calendar for fixed dates. Both calendars celebrate Pascha on the same date.

How does the parish finder work?

The parish finder uses your device's GPS location to find Orthodox churches nearby. You can view service times, contact information, and get directions to the parish via Google Maps. You can also save your favorite parishes for quick access.

What are fasting rules?

The Orthodox Church observes several fasting periods throughout the year. Kupola displays the fasting rules for each day, indicating whether it's a strict fast day (no meat, dairy, fish, oil, or wine), a moderate fast (oil and wine permitted), or a non-fasting day. The rules follow the traditional practices of the Orthodox Church.

What does the hagiographies section contain?

Hagiographies are the life stories of the saints commemorated each day. Kupola provides detailed biographies of the saints, allowing you to learn more about their lives, miracles, and spiritual legacy.

Do I need an account to use Kupola?

No, Kupola works fully without an account. All core features are available without signing in. However, if you want to sync your preferences across multiple devices, you can optionally sign in with your Google or Apple account.

Is my data safe?

Yes, protecting your data is important to us. Your preferences are stored locally on your device. Your location data is only used to find parishes and is never sent to our servers. If you choose to sign in, we use Firebase for secure authentication and storage. For more details, please see our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

If you have created an account, you can request its deletion by contacting us at support@dovedstudio.com. Your account and all synced data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Data stored locally on your device will be deleted when you uninstall the app.

Can I use Kupola offline?

Most of Kupola's features work offline once the data is downloaded. The liturgical calendar, daily saints, readings, and fasting rules are all available without an internet connection. However, the parish finder requires a connection to load church data and maps.

Why does Kupola need access to my location?

Location access is needed only for the parish finder feature. It allows you to find Orthodox churches near your current location. Kupola does not continuously track your location and never stores your location data on our servers.

How do I set up notifications?

In the app settings, you can enable notifications to be reminded of fasting days, major feasts, and important commemorations. You can choose the time you want to receive these reminders and customize the types of notifications you want to receive.

Is the app free?

Yes, Kupola is completely free. All features are available without any purchase or subscription.

How can I suggest a missing parish?

If you know of an Orthodox parish that doesn't appear in the app, please contact us at support@dovedstudio.com with the church name, address, and if possible, service times. We'll add it to our database.
